In a rural part of southwest Virginia, unique geology creates naturally cross-shaped stones that have become a local legend. Along the way we’ll be taking the occasional break from stories of hard times to show you the interesting attractions we see on the road.
One of the few spots where the stones are easily found is behind the “Haynes 57″ gas station on state route 57 north of Martinsville. Owners Mary and Ronnie call their business the “Home of the Fairy Stones” and share their fascination with visitors who drop by.

The “Haynes 57″ gas station is located on Virginia state route 57 adjacent to Fairy Stone State Park in Patrick County, Virginia. Mary and Ronnie can usually be found there daily except for Tuesday.
I think having faerie statues scattered around the forest would make for a more magical experience, especially for children all of ages (including us older children)! And having some that light up in the dark near the living quarters would be very grand indeed!
I have been here once. It is a mystical magical place. My husband and I walked through the woods and found several pieces of fairy stones. They are beautiful. Taking children would be a wondrous experience I believe.
im 11 and im doing my science project on this. I think its amazing how these are formed! (:
